How Teaching at Sydney University Fuels My Creativity
Teaching design at Sydney University has been a transformative journey, re-igniting my passion for creativity and pushing the boundaries of my own design business. I'm genuinely inspired by the energy of my students and the endless possibilities within the design world.
A Fresh Perspective
Engaging with aspiring designers has broadened my perspective and challenged my preconceived notions about design. I now see potential for redesign everywhere I look – from everyday objects to urban landscapes. This newfound perspective has infused my business with a renewed sense of excitement and curiosity.
Pushing Boundaries
Teaching at Sydney University has encouraged me to push the boundaries of conventional design practices and embrace experimentation. I'm constantly inspired to think outside the box, explore new techniques, and take calculated risks to pursue innovation. This approach to design has positively impacted the work I'm getting and how I feel about what I'm creating for my clients.
Embracing Freshness and Excitement
One of the most exhilarating aspects of teaching design is witnessing the joy and enthusiasm that comes with creative exploration. I'm driven by a desire to infuse everything I work on with freshness, fun, and excitement. Whether revamping a brand identity, redesigning a website, or conceptualizing a marketing campaign, I strive to inject a dose of vibrancy and energy into every project.
Empowering Others
Teaching design isn't just about imparting knowledge – it's about empowering the next generation of designers to unleash their full potential. By fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment, I can nurture my students' talents and equip them with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their field.
Rethinking
I've been designing and redesigning book covers, posters and even signage to push my boundaries. The one I've shared here incorporates modern typography elements and vibrant imagery made from a collage of torn surfing magazines to reflect the book's themes in a fresh and visually engaging way. It's a testament to the power of creative reinvention and the endless possibilities within the design world. Apologies to the person who did the original version.
The last two years with Sydney University have been a profoundly enriching experience that continues to inspire and fuel innovation in my design. From pushing my creativity and embracing fresh perspectives to pushing boundaries and empowering others, the impact of teaching extends far beyond the classroom, shaping the future of design and driving positive change in the visual world.
